Central Contractor Registration
(CCR): First Step Toward Government Contracts
Any business looking to get a government
contract should know about the Central Contract Registration, or
CCR. The CCR is the primary database for vendors that can provide
services to the U.S. government. The CCR is not only a place to
register if you are considering a government contract, but the
database will collect, validate, store and disseminate information
so that agencies looking to acquire services are supported better.
The CCR not only functions as a database, but
also as a way for payment to be made and received. When you
register your company with the CCR, you will be required to give
basic information that is relevant to the procurement process and
also for financial transactions. The CCR will provide the
information to federal agencies so that payments can go through and
electronic funds transfer. The CCR also shares the information with
procurement and electronic business systems within the government.
All the information is encrypted and secure, so that your company’s
information is protected when being transferred.
If you are a prospective contractor, you should
be registered with the CCR, though it should be noted that
registration does not guarantee that your company will be chosen to
do business with the U.S. government. In order to register with the
CCR, you will need specific information, but the registration
process can be done easily online. The registration process for the
CCR will take about 30 minutes, but can vary based upon the size and
complexity of your organization.
If you have the required information for CCR
registration gathered prior to starting the process, it will
simplify your CCR registration. First, you will need your DUNS
and/or your DUNS + 4 number. A CAGE code is also required for CCR
registration. Your TIN number is a required field as is your dates
of business, fiscal year information, and number of employees. If
applicable, you’ll need your company security level, highest
employee security level, and your web address for CCR registration.
As far as corporate information on the CCR
registration, you’ll need to know the type of organization you have,
your NAICS Codes, SIC codes, PSC codes (optional), and FSC Codes
(optional). The other requirement in order to register on the CCR
involves your financial information. You’ll need to have your
account information, ABA routing number, ACH, and remittance
information. A point of contact is also required so that your CCR
registration information can be checked on and kept current.
When your CCR registration is active, you will
be issued a temporary PIN number to access your account, which can
be updated at any time. You will also receive a notice in the mail
of your registration. If you are interested in procuring government
contracts the CCR is not an option, it is a necessity. The CCR is a
requirement for getting most government contracts, so if you are not
in the CCR, you should complete your registration today to take that
first step toward government contracts.
